MERLE'S CLOSET

Pamella Roland has been creating chic red carpet and event gowns for years...

…she knows her way around a good silhouette and fit – she’s essentially a classicist. There’s always a gown or three on any one of her runways that you know you can wear year in, year out, that you can change up with accessories, hair and makeup, and no one will know you’ve worn it before. In other words, gowns as staples for wedding guests, philanthropic events, theater openings. Her spring 2025 show was inspired by a recent trip to Morocco – and as spicy (hues of spice). Rolland’s colors may have been spiced up – her usual shapes , sequins and beading were on sharp display. One revivited trend she tried out with some success: the big taffeta maxi wrap over skirt over a catsuit. When the bodysuit was silver and the skirt was black taffeta, it screamed: wear me! It’s a two-in-one dress, always handy to change things up. She worked with blues, greens and brown shades, offered some nice geometric beading.
