On one of L.A.’s first really warm days – temperatures reached mid 80’s – the monthly Pickwick Vintage Show at The Row...

…morphed from a winter-esque sea of 1970’s faux furs and popcorn knits to a river of pale peignoir dresses, mini-skirts, wooly-mammoth-sized sunglasses – on the crowd and in wonderfully colorful stalls. Skin was IN,

baby, after months of layering, as ladies donned backless mini’s, sleeveless everything, and light patchwork jackets – rainbow leather or bombers – 70’s hippie styles proliferated. When Pickwick regular vendors morph from sweaters over dresses over pants over knee high boots, to short shorts, t shirts and ankle grazing cowboy boots, you know exactly what wares will be flying off hangers that day. No surprise, this was also the second day of Coachella: most of the crowd would be heading that way, one weekend or another. Festival chic isn’t just for young music kids anymore – all of L.A. seems to embrace the fest-core look: 1970’s style scarves, board shorts, florals, funky beaten-up boots (often collector’s items), rock t’s and hand painted sneakers. And don’t forget layers upon layers of stacked costume jewelry and authentic vintage gems, which Pickwick has in droves. Vintage jewelry: ALWAYS far more interesting than new.
