MERLE'S CLOSET | FASHION COMMENTARY  | GOINGS ON | THE REAL DEAL | NOCTURNES

Come into Merle’s Closet for an insider’s view of the inner world of L.A. style

The thirty one year old The Race to Erase MS is one of Bev Hills’ best, most beauteous, annual charity events: evening gowns, feather boas, big and little diamonds – wait, scratch out “little.” Every year, it comes with a designer runway show and famous faces: this year, Casey Affleck, Diane Warren, Caroline Rhea, L’Agence ower Jeff Rudes, Natasha Bedingfield, Bijou Phillips, David Arquette, Kathy and Rick Hilton, and a fashion show by L.A.’s own L’Agence, all at the glam Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.

But despite its glam, the charity ball created by philanthropist/jewelry designer/supermom Nancy Davis, has raised many millions to take on the dreaded Multiple Sclerosis – which she was actually diagnosed with years ago, being told, definitively,  “There is no known cure.”  (continued below)

…Now, on top of the 1.5 million raised here, “the cure is within view,” she told the audience, who were anxious to bid on both the silent and on-stage live auction – for items like cruises, Taylor Swift tickets and a Parisian culinary adventure for two. Many of the guests were dressed by L’Agence: Davis in a long L’Agence sequin dress and matching coat. Bijou Phillips, Kathy Hilton, producer

Hilary Schor, and lots of other guests showed up in various silhouettes, from gowns to leather jackets. We’ve rarely seen a charity ball that ran this particular gamut: slithery halter gowns, sequin suits, lace coats, mini dresses – and one original custom Oscar de la Renta. This is people watching at its best and most eclectic. Just the way we like it!
