DRESS LIKE PHARRELL

Camouflage goes damoglage.

“I Candy,” as we call it, is in the “I” of the beholder. So, boy, did my eye – and eyes – get a lot of hard candy at the opening of Louis Vuitton’s Melrose pop up for the first menswear collection by new-ish LV Creative Director Pharrell Williams.

The designer/producer/artist/singer applied all his hybrid talents to it: pixilating LV’s famed Damier check in camo colors (“damoflage,” his nickname for it), breaking LV legacy bag The Speedy out of its long time canvas neutrals with real leather rainbow colors. The pop-up is decked out in gold Damier checked floors, the overwhelmingly male crowd was decked out in a variety of LV looks. Celebs like Barry Keoghan and Jaden Smith each wore it in their own way – as did big time influencers, models, movie producers, actors – and LV staff. And there were more LV bags than on any LV women’s runway. “Bags are all unisex now,” laughed one LV employee. “The man bag is dead.”

Movie producer Andrew Panay (Wedding Crashers, Serendipity, She’s All That) mixed his varied LV duds with a heavy diamond display – particularly his all-diamond Cartier watch. “I have a vision of the way I want to look,” he told me. “I think men in jewelry is not very cool.” I’d have to agree – and so does Pharrell, but the looks of the gold, silver and pearl jewelry that’s utterly unisex.

Now this is what we refer to as a “Canadian tux” – also called “the Texas tux” – on actor/influencer Blake Gray. But Pharrell’s version is in red and block color-blocked denim. Does it get any cooler??? LOVE those two tone pants.
