HERE COMES THE FUZZ

L.A.’s perennial fashion trend: layering – went full frontal at this weekend’s Pickwick Vintage Fair. For Feb’s chill, vintage coat’s ruled, though most were far from chill. Fuzzy was top drawer: faux fur, chubby’s, woolly bullies, animal prints: the coat is the thingright now – simultaneously,  at New York Fashion Fall 2025 Week: on the streets and the fall 2025 runways. Who doesn’t love adding texture to looks over thin-to-medium weight layering. Yep, it was yards of coats and boots, things L.A. residents only get to don just a few months a year. The layering extended to vintage corsets over blouses, shirts over shirts, even layered necklace (“stacked,” as they say). As you can see, grunge is back – though many (myself included) might argue it never went away – at least, on the west coast: plaids mixed with mismatched prints, makeshift pieces tossed on with little thought Or a lot. Another craze: popcorn knits from the 70’s – the fluffier the better. Suede and leather were standouts for sale: I spotted leather looks in lipstick red, fluorescent lime, butter yellow – and suede jackets, fringed or plain fun, in every shade of 70’s brown: coffee, cigar, burnt umber, chestnut, smoky topaz – and of course, this year’s new/old hue: mocha mousse. How 70’s can you get? Answer: At Pickwick, very.
