MERLE'S CLOSET

FOR NY's SPRING 2025, ONE SERIOUS TREND:

far more presentations than runway shows. What’s the real point of a runway show, anyway? To get photos of the clothes et al on social media and in the press. But presentations can do that as well, saving designers and smaller brands hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s economically wise and not wasteful. Particularly for accessory designers. If you don’t know Alexis Bittar’s finely designed costume jewelry –  and fine jewelry launched in 2013 – known for its whimsy and unique shapes since he started his namesake company, elevating his costume pieces to sculptural geometric shapes. The New York native has collaborated with Jason Wu, Ab Fab characters Edina and Patsy, has many eponymous boutiques – his Greenwich Avenue little jewel of one was the showcase of his spring collection. You’ll see lots of floral shapes in bright colors – and what’s happier than a big flower pin in the pin? Perfect for tailored spring jackets and draped capest hat contrast silky skirts and sheer pieces. Meanwhile, you must check out Bittar’s self written/produced instagram videos, starring “Margeaux,” an obnoxious Upper East Side lady, and her obsequious assistant Jules. It’s such a panic, word has it, it’s being adapted for a streaming service. Hell, it’s better than most sitcoms – with better co-stars. Stay Tuned.
