I actually didn’t know that Carine Roitfeld – queen of Paris fashion, lifelong muse to Tom Ford, past editor of French Vogue, super stylist, now founder/editor of the twice a year CRBook – had a line of fragrances. That’s because it had big release events in Paris and NY, but hadn’t had an L.A. event to promote it. That all changed, when Carine and son Vladimir – very much involved with the fashion world himself, and editor of the Players Magazine, covering the fashion’s new overlap with sports and athletes – arrived at the Scent Bar in Hollywood to meet friends of the brand and L.A.’s best fragrance emporium’s staff, like manager of 16 years Steve Gontarski. Every scent I’ve bought over the last almost two decades has been from a Steve tip – the nose knows. Carine and Vlad made quite an entrance, as they’d just come from a big celeb cover shoot for CRBook  -they wouldn’t say who. Scent Bar (referred to as a “niche store,” since most of its bottles are by indie brands, not of your grandma’s OG powdery rose variety. Some of the store’s shelves’ labels are “boozy,” “smoky,” etc. The intensely scented shop  – it hits you in the face as you walk in! –  carries the whole seven set Carine collection – seven names for seven lovers she had in various cities around the world. Only the French could broadcast that by way of a brand!! Her signature scent Carine is a heady combo of patchouli, vetiver, cashmeran, white amber, pink petter, jasmine and gardenia. The bottles are sultry – much like her (in a strapless long jersey gown by her hero, king of cool Rick Owens) – the largest size goes for $290.
