On a half-baked weirdly parched day in March, we ventured the DTLA heat to brave the outdoor stalls of Pickwick once again, and eat cold tofu and zaru soba at Japantown’s Monzo afterwards – now a tradition.
The Pickwick stalls were so bright we had to wear shades – except we were already vogue-ing them. I modelled my vintage GIANT brand 70’s black frames with orange, lime and lemon shaded tint (from Pickwick, bien sure!) to many compliments – but most of the colorful crowd was already checking out the 1970’s oversized
Dior, Gucci’s and obscure Italian brands. Many shoppers were already wearing them, in tints of all hues. The kaleidoscope of colors bursting out of the booths was insane – multi hued Missoni’s, vintage Gaultiers, coral sweaters, rainbow summer hats – I could barely contain the adrenaline – there was a high at this Pickwick I’ve never experienced before. And newly revived Boy London designer Can Tran, in his 80’s blacks and grays, stood out like a man sticking to his goths.
