OSCAR DE LA RENTA

There may be no greater fashion fantasy than an Oscar de la Renta runway show: feminine with a capital F (for “frouf), lace, tulle, beading, full skirts, slinky dresses, pale greens, pinks, yellows, metallics. It’s easy to float away on a cloud of imagined princess balls, English garden parties, scenes out of Brideshead Revisited or Women in Love.

And every year, the ladies of The Colleagues: Philanthropy Through Fashion founded by Nancy Reagan host a lunch for members , where they honor philanthropists who raise resources for foster kids. Kate Flannery hosted, Bridget Gless Keller presided, and the 700 ladies who attended were mostly dressed in Oscar finery. The late de la Renta’s daughter Eliza Bolen and husband Alex Bolen attended the lunch and auction, Eliza in Oscar knit pastels and poufy florals.

This is the last collection by design duo Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who will now concentrate on their label Monse. The Oscar de la Renta brand hasn’t staged a New York fashion week show in five years, so this was quite a treat for the brand’s rabid customers.
